B Woman: education is the first step towards gender equality

Roberta Girondi is the Head of BinHexS Administration Department, and, inside the B Woman project, she gave us her perspective on what is the reality experienced by women to date: there is a long way to go, and it starts especially with the education of the younger generation.

Verdiana (intervistatrice): What do you deal with in your day at BinHexS? What are the biggest challenges in your role?

Roberta: I am the administration department manager, so I am in charge of coordinating and monitoring the activities carried out by my two colleagues in order to give a timely and accurate representation of the company’s performance, meeting deadlines and ensuring quality in the performance of each administrative activity. The biggest challenge is to support the board of directors and management control to enable careful strategic planning.”

V: What are your professional goals?

R: “Among them there is definitely improvement, which is to be understood as a constant process: having achieved one goal, it is necessary to focus on the next. So, I try to improve more and more in order to be able to meet the needs of a constantly evolving reality.”

V: What are your greatest passions instead?

R: “I like to travel with my loved ones, wallet and schedule permitting. I enjoy being in nature and taking walks, as well as cultural activities, such as visiting exhibitions and museums or going to the theater.”

V: How do you perceive the role of women in today’s society, and what do you think needs to be done to achieve gender equality in Italy?

A: “The role of women, in Italy today, does not meet what are my expectations. Compared to other European countries, I think Italy still has to make a lot of efforts to achieve gender equality. We have a huge cultural problem that is difficult to unhinge. Some steps forward have been taken but they are not to be considered sufficient. I believe that only through proper education and awareness can we combat ignorance and the resulting gender violence. The topic is complex and it is difficult to address it without running the risk of trivializing. School and family must be invested in, attention must be paid to the younger generation, in order to educate them about respect for women and beyond. During 2023 there were more than 40 feminicides in Italy. I would say we are facing a social failure.”
