B Woman: let’s talk about human beings

Elena Guerzoni, Accountant in the BinHexS Administration Office, revealed her thoughts on being a woman and gender equality with two very powerful messages: women definitely have a leg up, but what we need to consider is people, regardless of their gender. And this is a great truth.

Verdiana (interviewer): What do you deal with in your day at BinHexS? What are the biggest challenges in your role?

Elena: “I am currently in charge of active billing and treasury management. Basically, it starts with reading incoming emails with subsequent checks and replies. Then it goes on with the billing part to customers, which means interfacing with back office and logistics, but also with suppliers in order to proceed and close the loop; finally, the day ends with recording bank movements and any payments.”

V: What are the biggest challenges in your role?

E: “I wouldn’t talk about real challenges-my competitive level is low, I’m not interested in ‘winning’-because I don’t judge the job as having to impose myself or as a competition, but rather as a way to create something that can enable everyone to be well.”

V: What are your professional goals?

E: “Besides getting as close to retirement as possible? Learning. Over the years I have had the opportunity to occupy different corporate positions, and from each one I have been able to learn so much and always put into practice what I had made my own in the various roles.

V: What are your greatest passions instead?

E: “Teaching, particularly teaching kids. I would have liked to be a high school teacher, but the desire for independence overrode the desire to study. I got to do corporate training for several years. I had a lot of fun. Fortunately, there are other passions that have compensated, not the least of which is sports (as a spectator of course).”

V: How do you perceive the role of women in today’s society, and what do you think needs to be done to achieve gender equality in Italy?

E: “Unfortunately, I think that women, in this precise historical period, on the one hand are becoming complacent and on the other hand want to be too much like men. And especially this second aspect scares me. I am extremely convinced that women are a step ahead. The reason is simple: history. But beyond the difference between men or women, between one gender or the other, I think it is really necessary to talk about PEOPLE, evaluating them for who they are and not their gender. We are still really far behind in Italy. It will be necessary for the new generations, who care decidedly less about gender, to replace those who today want to run their lives without really caring what their real needs are.”
